Major General Bill Dyer, Commanding General of the United States Army Reserve 108th Training Command

Join us this Friday at the AC Hotel as we honor Veteran's Day and welcome Major General Bill Dyer, the Commanding General of the United States Army Reserve 108th Training Command, where he executes command and control over 8,000 Army Reserve Soldiers who perform Basic Combat and Leader Training for both enlisted soldiers and junior officers across the United States.  He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute in 1985 and his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1992.  His military education includes a Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

While We are Talking About Our Veterans

As we have said before, the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association plans to install a beautiful monument in Dunwoody’s Brook Run Park to honor both American and Vietnamese soldiers who fought and died in the Vietnam War. The RCD Board approved to commit the Charitable Fund to match donations of Club members up to $2,500 so we can meet or exceed the $5,000 level to have the Club’s name and Rotary logo engraved on the monument. As of last Friday, we had moved beyond the $1,500 mark toward that goal!

If you’d like to participate, please make your tax deductible contribution to “Dunwoody Rotary Charitable Fund” and put “Vietnam War Memorial” on the memo line.  Then give or mail your check to RCD Treasurer Carter Stout as soon as possible.

Whiskey Raffle Update
8 Days + 122 Tickets + 2 Great Whiskey Bottles =

One important fundraising opportunity! We have just over a week to go before the winning ticket is drawn at next week's Thirsty Thursday. Take action now - get the word out to all the whiskey lovers in your circle of influence and encourage them to buy chances while they can. It's simple: The more tickets we sell, the more service projects we can do in the community. Just click here or use your phone's camera to zero in on the QR code and buy your Raffle #2 tickets for $20 each. We're selling 175 tickets; 53 sold to date.

What are we raffling next Thursday? A Benraich richly multi-layered and distinctive Speyside single malt plus a Whistle Pig aged Rye Whiskey.

Service Opportunity
Help Next Week at Kingsley Elementary: Harvest Baskets

Honorary Rotarian Anita Augello and her daughter Claudia six years ago when they started putting together Harvest Baskets for families with financial difficulties and hungry children. Anita tells us "Along with a turkey for Thanksgiving we also gift them with sustainable and nourishing products that should last them for a little while. We get help from Rotary Club of Dunwoody, E. 48th Street Market, and contributions from neighbors in Deerfield, Brooke Farm and Kingsley. All that generosity is greatly appreciated."

Some of us participated yesterday - picking up supplies from Costco and delivering them to Kingsley. Next week, we need two very strong people in the morning and two in the afternoon on Thursday, 11/16 at Kingsley Elementary School to carry well-filled (heavy) harvest baskets to people's cars.

Contact Anita Augello at 770-235-9981 to volunteer. [more]

Maui Fire Relief
Thank You Dunwoody!

In September, we initiated a community fundraiser for the Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii fire victims chaired by Charlie Augello. We are pleased to announce that restaurant and merchant receipts totaled $11,330 - and these funds will be sent directly to the Maui Rotary Club to be distributed to local individuals and families in need.

We thank all the participating restaurants, retail shops, real estate offices and private individuals who made this donation possible: Carbonara Trattoria, Dash Hospitality, Dunwoody Restaurant Group, E. 48th Street Market, La Petite Maison, Nai Thai Cuisine, Novo Cucina, Nowack’s Restaurant, Porter Brew & Que, Vintage Pizza, G.E. Haynes Inc., Harry Norman Perimeter Office (C. Morelle & C. Tran). [more]

Thanks for Your Service

Mark Your Calendar - Holiday Lunch on December 1

Forty years ago this December, Dunwoody Rotarians and their guests gathered for our first holiday lunch. Since then, we have gathered for lunch - catching up with friends, enjoying holiday music, bringing gifts for the community and more! More info soon!

GRSP Service Opportunity
Join Team Ahmed!

We need you to be part of a team supporting Ahmed, our 2023-24 GRSP student. How can you help?

  1. Pick him up for a Friday Rotary meeting (at his apartment home in Sandy Springs where he's living with his sister and twin brother))
  2. Invite Ahmed to join you for lunch or dinner - or another of your favorite activities - a sporting event, a visit to an Atlanta attraction that's special to you
  3. Include Ahmed (and maybe his sister and brother) in one of your holiday events.

You may contact Jackie Cuthbert to volunteer at cuthbert@mindspring.com or contact Ahmed directly at 470-917-99355 or by email at ahmedsendzekonde@gmail.com. We also will have a GRSP sign-up sheet on the tables this Friday.
