Greg Dozier, Commissioner, Technical College System of Georgia

Join us this Friday at the Embassy Suites (1030 Crown Pointe Parkway, Dunwoody) to welcome Greg Dozier, Commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). Greg last spoke to us just after being appointed to this position by Governor Brian Kemp in January 2020. As Commissioner, Dozier is responsible for the 22 technical colleges of TCSG and leads a team of more than 12,000 employees across the system. Dozier has the responsibility of managing an annual budget of more than $1.1 billion. [more]

Services for Mike Shortal This Saturday

Long time member Mike Shortal passed away on June 17. There will be a funeral service this Saturday, July 27 - starting at 10 AM. The service will be held at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, 805 Mount Vernon Hwy, Atlanta, GA 30327.

Mike joined the Rotary Club of Dunwoody in September of 2012. He was active in club activities and regularly attended weekly meetings until his health deteriorated in 2018. Although unable to attend meetings after that, he remained a faithful dues paying member of the Club until his recent passing. If you knew Mike, please make an effort to attend his service. He was a motivated Rotarian and lived up to his pledge when he became a member of our club.

It's Back Pack Saturday - This Week at 2 PM

No, we're not heading out on a trip. Instead, we're meeting up at the Dunwoody Country Club on Saturday, July 27 to load up 110 backpacks for children in need among the families served by Tapestri. We'll get started at 2 pm. Many hands make light work - so we hope you can join us.

In case you've forgotten, Tapestri is the non-profit organization President Jack selected as our speaker recognition gift - it's dedicated to creating opportunities for immigrant and refugee survivors of violence through education, community organizing, direct services, and advocacy to help them reclaim ownership over their lives! This is Year 2 of the backpack project!

Anchor Place Respite Needs You

Are you interested in making a real difference for your neighbors whose lives are touched by dementia and social isolation? Do you want to give back, build community, and enrich your life? Join your fellow Dunwoody Rotarians in being a friend and change-maker by volunteering your time and talents at Anchor Place. Our next volunteer training is Tuesday, July 30th 10:00am-12noon at Anchor Place. More information about volunteering can be found on the Anchor Place website or email Mary Cohen at mary.cohen@stpat.net with questions.

Note that you are guaranteed to have FUN! This week, everyone has enjoyed a trip to Paris and to Washington State's Olympic National Park - and Name That Tune brought lots of singing interspersed with laughter! So click here to register and share the fun.

If you can't do July 30, email Mary Cohen to find out when the next training sessions are scheduled. And be proud knowing that the Rotary Club of Dunwoody has been a strong force in getting Anchor Place going!. Spruce-a-tarian Alert: Next Gathering August 17

What is a Spruce-a-tarian? It's a Rotarian or member of the Family of Rotary who wants to "play in the dirt again" (to borrow a phrase from Pike's Nursery) - especially with other Rotarians. In Dunwoody, it's a band of gardeners led by Ranger Fred Bounds who weeds and tidies Bounds Garden - a patch of earth we claim in Dunwoody across from the Dunwoody Library (some people call it a "traffic island."

Anyone can become a Spruce-a-tarian as early as Saturday, August 17 - by bringing a favorite garden tool and gloves to Bounds Gardens at 9:00 am. Join the fun!
