No Friday Morning Meeting
Join Us for the Holiday Luncheon This Friday, 12/13

You and a guest are invited to join in a Dunwoody tradition ... the 41st Annual Holiday Luncheon on Friday, December 13 at the Dunwoody Country Club. Arrive 11-11:30am with the welcome to start at 11:30am. As always, we welcome your spouse or special guest

RSVP immediately to Dave Burr (dave@mailcenteretc.com) so we can reserve a spot for you.

We plan for the Dresden Elementary School chorus to provide some beautiful entertainment. And we hope to build a fine display of toys destined for donation to Toys for Tots! Please consider bringing a new, unwrapped toy to help spread some holiday joy this year to children and families in our community. Also, the holiday centerpieces from the luncheon will be for sale with all the proceeds going to the Toys for Tots fundraiser. And thanks to Jim and Janet Glass for leading our Toys for Tots efforts.

Service Opportunity
Help Prepare the Books for Kingsley Elementary

Join us in the library at Kingsley Elementary School next Tuesday at 11:00 am to put Rotary Club bookplates in the brand new books that will be handed out just before holiday break to each and every Kingsley student. This continues a long-time Dunwoody tradition to support literacy - started more than 20 years ago at Dresden Elementary (see article below for more about what we're doing at Dresden this year).

We hope to have at least 10 volunteers - and expect that with enough hands to help, we should be done by 1 pm at the latest. Let Anita Augello know if you can help us out - by email at nycgal338@gmail.com or by phone at 770-396-8950.

Kingsley Elementary is located at 2051 Brendon Drive, Dunwoody, GA 30338.

Thank You for Your Service
Dresden Elementary: Celebrating a 25-year History of Literacy, Music and More!

This Friday, we look forward to a performance by the Dresden Elementary Chorus with director and teacher of music Anthony Hoebeke.  The Chorus has been delighting us with their music at our Holiday luncheon for most of the last 20 years - a tradition started when Bill Woulfin was our President in 2003.  Our relationship with Dresden goes farther back - started in 1998 thanks to our then president, Jennie Springer.  She encouraged us to visit the school Principal to find out how we could share a positive influence with the school and the community.  The result was a character ed program where members visited classes regularly to discuss and encourage good Character traits for students as well as everybody else.

About that time we discovered that these children, from lower income families, did not have their own books at home.  That’s when the RCD started the Holiday Book project at Dresen.  We’ve been providing new books to every child at the December Holiday break every year since, That’s 25 years. To show their appreciation the school has brought their chorus to our Holiday Luncheon here at the Dunwoody County Club to share some of their favorite Holiday songs.  Their performance is always a treat. Service Opportunity
Don't Forget the Garden! Bucket Brigade Needs YOU!

Ranger Fred Bounds has invited all of us to be part of the Bucket Brigade - a group of brave Rotarians willing to help Fred keep all the new baby plants at Bounds Gardens well watered! He had a big smile on his face Monday when Mother Nature took over and watered enough that Tuesday duties this week were not required!

"I continue to monitor the weather about 8 times a day - and head out for Bounds Gardens on Tuesday, Thursday and to keep those baby plants watered! Would love to have company doing that. And of course, prayers that Mother Nature will keep working at this."

If you want to join the Bucket Brigade, contact Fred at fbounds@gsu.edu  or 404-428-6630

Wine Fellowship
Join the Bardens for Gluhwein - Sunday January 5

President Louise and Ron invite you to join us for a special Gluhwein wine fellowship on Sunday, January 5 from 4 - 6 pm, where we'll enjoy a winter wonderland on our back deck (weather permitting, otherwise we'll move inside) and the hot mulled wine that is the Christmas market tradition all over Europe. Everyone should bring a bottle of wine or an appetizer/dessert to share. We will have non-alcoholic beverages too!

Please RSVP to Louise at lbarden@comcast.net or 404-423-8226. The Bardens live at 5576 Colbert Trail, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092

Getting to Know You
Ken Levy, Man with a Story and Heart for Rotary

Ken (center) is a woodworker too, and made cell phone stands to sell in support of our golf tournament!. Pictured with Charlie Augello and Bob O'Brien

Ken Levy joined the Dunwoody Sunset Rotary Club in 2009 and was nominated to be the president elect at his first meeting. He served as president the following year, moved to our club, where he was named the Rotarian of the Year in 2018. Ken is known for telling jokes during our general meetings and for regularly leading the Dunwoody Diners social events like trips to the Gwinnett Stripers game and the Music Man at the City Springs Theater. Most recently, he donated the bottles for the Whiskey Raffle prize we highlighted separately in this newsletter. He stresses the importance of involving each member's spouse in the club's social and volunteer activities because we want members to have the support of their families. Ken wants to see our club continue to support literacy projects, especially economic literacy for young people. [more]

Membership Moment
Do You Have a Friend to Introduce to Us?

Hello All Membership Committee Members …that’s YOU…we are approaching the end of our calendar year, and as the holidays arrive it is somewhat more difficult to recruit new Rotarians (but still possible)…Thus far we have 3 outstanding New Members for ’24-’25, and Dottie Ransom has earned the $100 sponsorship bonus by bringing Mike Starling to us.  There is still time to add your name to the list of those who will qualify for this reduction in their dues…FIND A FRIEND to share the fun of Rotary with US!!
