LEADERSHIP

President Nominee David Burr
Immediate PP Jack Sparks, Jr.
Vice President Matthew Johnson
Treasurer Carter Stout
Secretary Alison Norris

This Week's Speaker
Paige Alexander, CEO, The Carter Center

Join us this Friday at Embassy Suites to welcome Paige Alexander, chief executive officer of The Carter Center, a nonprofit organization founded in 1982 by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter to advance peace and health worldwide. Paige comes to us through former Dunwoody Rotarian Patti Bunker, who is on staff at The Carter Center and will be joining us today too. Thanks Patti!

Alexander joined the Center in 2020 at a pivotal time for the organization and the country. In her first year, Alexander led the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and a period of national social upheaval, while envisioning a path forward for The Carter Center as it transitioned from an organization that was founder-led to one that is guided by its founders’ principles.

Since that time, Alexander has strengthened the Center’s core peace and health programs and led the organization in new directions, including adding programs to address: the global mental health crisis; political polarization in the US; and the impact of climate change on global peace and public health.  [more]

GRSP Leadership Weekend
Gotta Love Our Leadership Weekend - Founded 25 Years Ago - Join Us!

This Valentine's Day Friday, 37 students from 22 countries around the world will arrive in Atlanta for their turn at the GRSP Leadership Weekend that the Rotary Club of Dunwoody started 25 years ago - under the leadership of Fred and Kathy Brandt!

We invite you to join us as you can for the weekend's festivities - starting Friday night at 6:00 pm with pizza and game night (let Jackie know if you plan to attend) and proceeding from there to packing meals for Rise Against Hunger on Saturday morning, a leadership "boot camp" workshop on Saturday afternoon, and Shark Tank Sunday morning. See the schedule attached.

We might put you to work helping to set up (starting about 11 am Friday), helping keep the snack tables filled up and coffee/water/tea available, or even participating in the Rise Against Hunger event - set up starts at 8:30 and meal packing from 10-12. [more]

Golf Tournament Update
Sponsors: Our Most Important Shot

For Ben Hogan, professional golfer who is one of only five to win all four major tournaments, the most important shot was the next shot. As we focus on our $50,000+ goal and all that can help us do for the Alzheimer's Association "The Longest Day", Anchor Place respite care and our other service initiatives, our next important shot is securing sponsors.

Please let Bob O’Brien, Charlie Arguello or Rick Woods know if you are planning to be a returning or will be a new sponsor and at which level for our upcoming major fundraising golf tournament in May. We are especially looking for help in contacting a $20,000 Signature Sponsor, a $5,000 Gold Sponsor, a $2,500 Hole-in-One Sponsor, a $2,500 Putting Contest Sponsor and very importantly a $2,500 Ditty Bag Sponsors needed soon so we can order the logoed ditty bags.

There are unlimited opportunities to be $1,000 Hole Sponsors as well as $250 Contributing, $100 Donating, and $25 Participating level Sponsors.

Please check the tournament website for the weekly updates at www.rcdgolftournament.com. Thanks!

How Hoa Celebrated Lunar New Year

This week has been special for the Rotary Club of Dunwoody and our GRSP student, Hoa Nguyen. Last Thursday, she delighted the people we serve at Anchor Place Respite Care by sharing what Lunar New Year in Vietnam is all about. It seems this holiday is much like our Christmas in terms of celebrating family and food! It was interesting to note that one day of the Lunar New Year celebration is all about celebrating teachsrs!

On Saturday, Hoa delighted another group - our Dunwoody Diners - who gathered at Nam Phuong to experience Vietnamese dining with Hoa. It was the biggest Dunwoody Diner event ever, with nearly 30 people. Hoa moved table-to-table, sharing her food favorites and helping navigate the menu. Her reaction: "I was absolutely thrilled to see everyone enjoying food from my home country. The Rotarians made me feel so at home  and gave me a truly special Lunar New Year."

She went on to say it all motivates her to excel in her studies and extracurricular activities.

DeKalb Rotary Council Awards - Provide Your Input!

We'll soon be announcing the Annual DeKalb Rotary Council breakfast - where we'll honor DeKalb County and Decatur School System teachers, along with several Rotarians who make a special difference. I need your help to identify our possible nominee for the Bob Grant "You are the Key" award - someone who you believe has performed exemplary service to the club, community, district or state, and demonstrated a dedication and quality of service to a project and/or a program where children, youth or adults have received significant benefit.  The Council selects one individual rom among the nominees - the one the Council believes sets an example of leadership, attitude, enthusiasm and commitment to serving others. Let President Louise or one of our officers or directors know if you have a person you'd like to see honored!
