Be a Sponsor
President's Message July 28

The sponsor forms are out and we need you to sign up to support our Golf and Tennis Tournaments.  Over the last few weeks, we have read about or heard from several groups that receive our support and marveled at the difference they make in our community.

The first day of school is less than two weeks away.  What a great time to hear from Dr. Christopher Matthews from Fulton County Schools as our kids prepare to go back to school.  We will have a special treat as we send off our outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student Revie Pierce who is leaving for France soon.  We'll also have our second Past President Moment this week.  Come learn about our club in the early 90's.  See you Thursday!

Back to School with Dr. Christopher Matthews
Program July 28-Dr. Christopher Matthews-Fulton County Schools

With the new school year fast approaching, its a perfect time to hear from Dr. Christopher M. Matthews, Assistant Superintendent Fulton County Schools. Dr. Matthews is an accomplished school and system leader with 25+ years of K-12 education experience with a strong record of supporting school improvement and student achievement by focusing on data driven decision making, continuously evaluating and improving student programs and services, strategically aligning staff and resources, leading system and school level initiatives, developing and supporting principals and support staff, creating and revising policy and effectively managing the performance of school based and central office based talent.

Examples of leadership results are;

 Reallocated funds to create Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) Coaches to improve instruction for Students with Disabilities

 Implemented a research based literacy building program for ELL students and Students with Disabilities to increase achievement

 Implemented multiple strategies and programs that resulted in a 37% reduction in out of school suspension over last 7 years

 Achieved highest graduation rate in Atlanta Metro Area (5 large county region) for ELL students and Student with Disabilities

 Reduced disproportionate rates of suspension of black students which resulted in removal of State Action Plan

 Produced more State “Distinguished” PBIS schools than any other school system in GA

 Implemented short term suspension program that resulted in over 6,000 instructional hours per school year

 Strategically managed local and grant budgets totaling over 45 million dollars

 Implemented 3 successful Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs that resulted in improved achievement

 Created district and school programs for SEL, Drug/Alcohol Prevention, Alternative Schools, PBIS, In-School Support (ISS)

 Developed written district protocols for student crisis, afraid to go home, safety plans, threat assessment, aggressive students

Looking forward to hearing from Dr. Matthews on Thursday!

-For the past 12 years, CNC’s Unity Garden has supplied more than 32 tons of fresh produce to the clients of NFCC

-Roswell Rotary received a District Grant from the Rotary Foundation to replace the tools used to cultivate and tend the Unity Garden and provide assistance with the rising cost       of seeds.

Past President Moment
Jeff Hamling- 1992-93

You've seen him administer the membership oath to most of our members, but did you know he only found out he would be president a month before the Rotary year began?  Come find out what else happened thirty years ago at Roswell Rotary when we hear from Jeff Hamling.

After Hours Club Update

Thank you to Henning von Schmeling, Senior Director of Operations for the Unity Garden at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, for speaking to the After Hours club on Tuesday evening! Henning spoke with such passion and eloquence as he described various vegetables, seeds, wildlife and more. It was truly impressive to hear the role the Unity Garden plays in providing food to the community. The club learned a lot and looks forward to a *blossoming* partnership!

After Hours' next meeting is Tuesday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m. at The Artillery Room @ Gate City. As a reminder, they meet the first and third Tuesday of the month.

Injury and Surgery Play a Small Part in the Need for Blood

Many people think that blood is only needed for those who've had an injury or surgery.  However, there are a large group of people that require blood for things as simple as a infected cut on their arm, a minor viral infection or a minor bacterial infection.  This could include people in chemotherapy or those that are just not producing white blood cells.  Your blood can provide the white blood cells that will save lives.

We need your help to give but if we can't get your blood we must get it from others!  So we're asking for your help by asking others!  Make it a "Call To Action" and get a minimum of one friend or family member to give in your honor.  It's a simple process that makes you feel so good when you deliver!  Plus when giving a Pint of Blood you get a Pint of Beer from our friends at Gate City!

For you or a friend to 'reserve a table' on Wed, Aug 3, click here to see availability and reserve your table.   For more info and questions, please contact Darrell Bartlett at Darrell.Bartlett@allegion.com or Hal Schlenger at HSchlenger@GreatSouthBenefits.com
